It’s been said that everything musical has been done before, but Buster Blue has found a place inhabited only by their own off- ‐ - ‐kilter creation. The five members utilize an arsenal of instruments that include horns, banjo, accordion, chains, and a well- ‐ - ‐placed bucket. Their intention to revisit the American musical roots tradition may have much to do with their upbringing in the small town of Gardnerville, Nevada. Buster Blue’s musical educations range from one member being drum major of the high school band to another being a screamer in a hardcore group. Their diverse backgrounds and upbringings help give color to their music, as well as make it difficult to pigeonhole them to a specific genre.
Buster Blue brings more than music to the stage. Consummate performers, they bring theatrics to their live sets that meld seamlessly to the emotional arc of each of their songs. At times a raucous bar band and at other times a bit musical theater. Anyone attending a live show will surely be taken on one hell of a ride!
In January of 2010, Buster Blue set out to record their first full- ‐ - ‐length album. The band enlisted rising producers, Zak Girdis and Kevin Bosley (collectively worked with artists including: The Avett Brothers, Gogol Bordello, At the Drive In, and 400 Blows), and chose to go outside the studio process. The band and producers hunkered down during the deep winter months in the legendary, ghost town of Virginia City, NV at the historic Piper’s Opera House. The Silver rush era Opera House once hosted performers such as John Barrymore, Harry Houdini, and Al Jolson and was the ideal setting to allow the band to fully immerse in the process making a unique album. When the band emerged from their experience, they had created their current release, “When the Silver’s Gone”. The album captures the emotional depth of that particular set of songs and may very well be one of the most ambitious records released in recent years.
Since the release of “When the Silver’s Gone”, Buster Blue has been immersed in their "breakout" year with a relentless tour schedule bringing the band throughout the western United States that totaled 160 shows in 11 states. These efforts have brought Buster Blue exposure that has the band moving into marquee venues, receiving invitations to perform at top level festivals to include the Fall Strawberry Music Festival, Neon Reverb Music Festival, Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle, Millpond Music Festival, and many more. The band has supported national touring acts both on tour and at home. In Spring 2011, Buster Blue also invited to perform as the featured band at the Rock'n'Bowla event supporting the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research in Los Angeles at L.A. Live. The band's unique sound & grass-roots promotion style caught the attention of Billboard Magazine in the fall of 2011, running a full page article about Buster Blue.
