21 years and over
Fans of THEE OH SEES and the rest of the straight blowing-up west coast garagey rock'n'roll scene, are you in for a treat. Sometimes-second-drummer LARS FINBERG returns to the Empty Bottle for a headlining date with his primary band THE INTELLIGENCE, along with excellent support from two classy Chicago punk bands. THE INTELLIGENCE are touring in support of their new album, Everybody’s Got It Easy But Me, and continue to jettison their deliberately blown-out, lo-fi recording approach for a much clearer sound. Not that there’s any loss of intensity. The band’s scrambling post-punk guitars, dry-as-a-bone drums and laconically abstract verses are all here, viewed through an unusually clear lens, making for the most varied yet cohesive INTELLIGENCE album to date. Not so new anymore but still a favorite, local super-group of sorts - featuring members of MAXIUMUM WAGE, CIRCUS LUPUS, MONORCHID, DAYLIGHT ROBBERY, WHITE SAVAGE and more - COFFIN PRICKS return with the tightly wound infectious tunes found on their 2012 released 7” Group Home Haircut out via Stationary Heart Records. Recently featured in renowned U.K. publication NME, GALLOWS’ former guitarist FRANK CARTER pimped the foursome for their “jagged guitars with reverbed-out surf lines, great hooks and a vocal delivery that’s not far off MARK E. SMITH.” Huzzah. Opening up tonight’s sock hop are one of the most fun bands we’ve come across this year – PARTY BAT! Head to their Bandcamp for tracks like “Do You Wanna Party With A Bat” and “Halloweiner,” found on their Tic Tac Totally 7”.
