SHEARWATER
Related: Okkervil River
Providing his multi-instrumental talents to OKKERVIL RIVER since its inception, JONATHAN MEIBURG has been writing, recording and releasing material under the SHEARWATER name with a rotating cast of musicians since 2001 and has gained notoriety for his ability to craft expansive and lush recordings that continuously break sonic grounds. For their 2012 effort, Animal Joy out via Sub Pop, SHEARWATER’s efforts have transformed yet again and the band remains inventive, fresh and direct. As they’ve amped up their efforts to cover new territory – more rock, less folk – the band continues their ever-evolving artistic reimagining, all the while landing an opening spot for freakin’ DINOSAUR JR. during their fall tour! Mellow acoustic ensemble JUDSON CLAIBORNE, a band that uses a humble, spare approach that feels both natural and personal, drawing listeners in completely, returns for the first time since opening for THE BESNARD LAKES this past June. They’ve recorded a new record that’s due out in spring 2013 and we’re excited to hear new tunes from these trusty old friends who’s live show is not to be missed. Springfield, IL native DANIEL KNOX is an accomplished filmmaker and scorer who’s developed over the past five years into a well-respected solo musician and songwriter in and out of Chicago. Self-recording much of his own material, KNOX released Evryman For Himself in 2011, out via La Société Expéditionnaire, a soaring, lilting and jeering effort that sees the rogue pianist crooning, sneering and shouting to his contagious melodies with a full band and larger arrangements. Mixing live performers and prerecorded sound set to projection, Daniel will perform a set of new material written specifically to accompany video work by photographer John Atwood.
