A three–time Grammy Award nominee for “Best Jazz Vocal Album,” Tierney Sutton is often described as “a singer’s singer.” But she might well be described as a “musician’s singer” for the way in which she uses her voice as one of four instruments that comprise the Tierney Sutton Band. Now approaching its twentieth year together, this road–tested unit (wrote Bobby Reed at DownBeat.com) is “capable of creat­ing innovative interpretations of even the most well–known warhorses.” (The group’s BFM Jazz CD American Road was nominated for two Grammy Awards.) In performance, “each member has a more or less equal say in the creation of elaborate, trickily metered arrangements through which Mr. Jacob’s piano catapults.
