plus Revolution Brass Band / DJ Jon Csicsila spins soul & funk before & between sets
Monday, Sep 17, 2012 8:30 PM EDT
(7:30 PM Doors)
Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland, OH
If you love world music -- and especially Afrobeat, as pioneered by genius revolutionary Fela Kuti -- you simply can’t miss out on this show. There are few groups stateside that have ever tackled this genre with such intense love, hope, and passion as NYC band Antibalas. After a five year hiatus -- during which its various members worked on a wide variety of projects, including the hit Broadway musical Fela!--this politically-charged and funk-laden group returns to the Beachland wielding the unstoppable power of Afrobeat. During their heyday, Antibalas were very much beloved by Beachland regulars. Yet very bands these days can speak the language of funk like they do. Their social commentary, always pointed, is certainly relevant these days -- maybe more now than ever! Opening is CLE’s New Orleans-inspired horn and rhythm group, Revolution Brass Band. Check out Antibalas’ latest, Dirty Money, and we simply dare you not to groove to it. Seriously.
