Since releasing the critically acclaimed Hour Logic, Laurel Halo has developed a self-contained take on electronic music, collapsing the boundaries between ambient, pop, synthetic psychedelia, dub and the techno music of her Midwest roots. Fixed stylistic territories fold in on themselves, time quickens -- her music is meant for transit, body listening and loud soundsystems. Quarantine (2012), her debut album and first release on Hyperdub, is her most focused and evolved release yet. This is an album of transporting songs, various altitude shifts via effecting pop-concrete, built on a rich synthesis of intuitive but exacting electronic abstraction, bass pulse and heartfelt songwriting.
Pete Swanson was one half of the mighty Yellow Swans, and as of late he’s been producing music that might be described as Birmingham techno filtered through the mists of Pacific Northwest noise. With ‘Man With Potential’, Swanson appears unafraid to dive headfirst into the dank pulsing soundscapes that helped birth his old band, but with expected pulses and white noise replaced by chattering 140bpm percussion. Apocalyptic house music filtered through the bathroom wall.
Noveller is the solo project of Brooklyn-based guitarist and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. Her one-woman guitar soundscapes have captured the attention of NPR, The Village Voice, Time Out New York, and The Wall Street Journal - plus the ear of collaborators such as Rhys Chatham, Carla Bozulich (Evangelista, The Geraldine Fibbers), David Wm. Sims (the Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid), and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth). She has previously performed as a member of Cold Cave, Parts & Labor, and One Umbrella.
Burning Star Core is a musical project by artist C. Spencer Yeh. BxC’s current live performance strategy centers around Yeh, with occasional participation from select collaborators.
