Carolines on Broadway, New York, NY
Michael Che, born in lower east side Manhattan, has been performing standup since 2009. As the youngest child of seven, he's been the source of comic relief since diapers. Growing up with teenage siblings, Che became familiar with standup comedy at a very young age, via Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, and Damon Wayans specials. However, it wasnt until he attended LaGuardia Music & Peforming Arts High School, that he realized performing could be a future career.
As a performer, Michael Che sites Patrice Oneal, Dave Chappelle, George Carlin and Richard Pryor as his biggest influences. He appreciates performers that can identify humanity, even in the most controversial actions, and convey it to the audience with humor. Which is the same approach he takes with his comedy. In the future, he hopes to be added to that list of legends that are willing to find humor, where others wouldnt think to look.
"I feel like my job as a comedian is to find the funny. Whether its something mundane, that you see everyday without a second thought. Or something painful and dark that you wouldnt think to laugh about. My job's to find it for you. Its not always pretty, and almost never easy. But theres nothing more rewarding than making people laugh at something they never found funny."
