DJ ABILITIES, JEL, VOID PEDAL, ZAVALA and CRUSHCON7 hit the road together at the end of July and wrap up their tour across the States with a free show here at the Bottle. DJ ABILITIES, former DJ for the late EYEDEA, is a formidable producer but on this tour he’s returning to his roots as a wicked disc-spinner, even releasing a brand new mixtape entitled Now That’s What I Call Fuck Off. One of the co-founders of the much-respected Anticon, JEL has toured extensively with SLEIGH BELLS. Known primarily as a producer, live he utilizes SP-1200 and MPC2000XL to create drum beats with little or no sequencing – like playing drums live via sampler pads. VOID PEDAL combines a time-honored hip hop approach of sampling drum breaks with well-structured layers of accessible analog synthesizer riffs to create genre defying sound on his full length debut Omni Color. Of the first single "Looking Glass," Impose praised “it follows Chicago traditions in the hip hop department, turns the drums way up and makes'em snap, and breaks left with squeaky clean synth lines to give it a new bounce.” ZAVALA, a Chicago based up-and-comer that produces for DARK TIME SUNSHINE, and CRUSHCON7 open – CRUSHCON7 recently released a split 12” with MEATY OGRE and their side elevated the 8-bit to atmospheric heights as the fluttering tones and lasers on their track “Memento Mori” played like a composition written as memento to a historical intergalactic battle between warring space station.
