In Tall Buildings is the recording moniker of Chicago musician and producer Erik Hall (NOMO, Wild Belle). The home-recorded debut album was released in 2010 by Chicago's Whistler Records, and Erik's songs were immediately praised by the Chicago Tribune as being “dense, textured, [and] hypnotic.” American Songwriter magazine referred to In Tall Buildings as “the aural representation of a pleasantly scattered mind,” and The Huffington Post included In Tall Buildings on their Best of Chicago 2010 list. The band has appeared at South by Southwest, Midpoint Music Festival, Tomorrow Never Knows Festival, TEDxUofM, and the Toronto International Film Festival. They have shared stages with Craig Finn, Here We Go Magic, Sharon Van Etten, and His Name Is Alive.
Since 2006, Brooklyn’s She Keeps Bees have been self-recording and releasing music created entirely at home. Their debut album, Minisink Hotel, was described by NYC’s Other Music as “the best album you’ve never heard..." Their second album, Nests, was praised by The Guardian as “sparse, soulful and defiantly retro.” During November 2010, She Keeps Bees recorded Dig On at a home in New York’s Catskill Mountains. Dig On was featured as one of Rough Trade Shop's albums of the year, 2011, and hailed by the BBC as "an album of fire, spirit and sweat." The band has toured extensively since 2009, recently completing a 10,000-mile journey across Europe with UK festival dates including Green Man, Reading, Leeds, and End of the Road. With a second limited-edition seven-inch coming soon, She Keeps Bees are currently plotting a lengthy US tour this summer.
Talons' is primarily Mike Tolan (Trouble Books, Six Parts Seven, Mustache Mountain). Positive Beat is pleased to present Talons' latest work 'Songs for Boats' on LP (coming on March 29th 2011). 'Songs for Boats' is an album of love songs at the end of the world. It is a new folk music made to resonate now rather than endure for decades. Written while Mike was living/studying in Spain and the world was sliding into recession, these boat songs came into being as he wondered how he would get home once the world fell apart. 'Songs for Boats' was recorded at home in Akron, Ohio throughout 2010 with the help of friends whose contributions in the form of varied acoustic instruments, woodwinds and lapsteel create a delicate world within which the songs come alive, sway, and pull themselves along towards humble, hopeful ends.
