21 years and over
In the words of Pitchfork, ONRA’s beats reassemble “fractured vintage synth funk and R&B tropes, glossy state-of-the-art in '87 tightness into new stutter-step looseness, like machines rebuilt with duct tape and wire hangers.” On his newest recorded effort, the Deep in the Night EP out last month via Fool’s Gold, ONRA expands his auditory palate incorporating digital chimes rattling from the gusts causes by helicopter-blade keyboards, manhandling drum machines into off-the-cuff improvisational riffs and reducing vocal hooks to their most basic. We’re excited to witness how he takes the machinations of his recorded works and brings it to life on our stage tonight. Kansas City’s MORRI$ takes huge 808 kick drums and sharp, rolling snares and hi-hats, throws in some ominously rising synths and flips that base with his clever beats and rhymes on pretty much every track we’ve heard streaming on his SoundCloud page. Inventive producers IMPALA SOUND CHAMPIONS open tonight’s show, co-presented by Knuckle Rumbler and Pawn Works.
