Sarah Spark (Anna Margaret Hollyman) s is a freelance "technologist" who repairs everything from new computers to old-fashioned radios and considers it part of her job to interview strangers in public places about the role technology plays in their lives. When she and her boyfriend, Leon, find out she's pregnant, she actually comments on the font used on the pregnancy test! She is more interested in ultrasound technology than in what's being ultra-sounded. Ambivalent and concerned about her lack of parenting skills, she would prefer that her interaction with people could be as uncomplicated as her relationship with technology. When her sister lures her to L.A. for what ends up being a terrorizing baby shower, Sarah takes her rental van on the road in search of the source of her anxiety: her estranged mother, now living off the grid. Soon Sarah no longer has access to her gadgets and without the virtual world, she has to face the complicated nature of a real-life connection.

Filmmakers Howell and Robinson have said that they were interested in examining how "people's relationships to technology have taken on the qualities of human relationships." in this coming-of-parenthood tale for the internet age.
