Last month, for our two-year anniversary we had a giant celebration of the varied ways people become scientists. But that's not everyone. That's not most people. Actually, the vast majority of people aren't scientists. So, this month, we're hearing stories from people who *didn't* become scientists -- people who got in titanic battles with science, who skirted the edge of the unscientific backwaters, or who struggled mightily to keep the relationship with science going, and failed.

"The experience was incredibly cathartic, and having people come up to me afterwards and tell me how interesting and moving they found my story was as gratifying as any compliment I have ever received about my research." -- David Carmel, Nature
