Local folk pop ensemble DISTRACTIONS whose revolving line-up band deals in languid, dreamy tunes, rooted by singer THOMAS OWENS' thick, loungey baritone, returns to the Bottle tonight playing off their Dark Green Sea LP out via Infinite Best and We Were Better Off In the Rain 7” on Two Syllable. To quote Hard Times Chicago, “I’ve exhausted adjectives for unique and spacey. I’ve run out of accurate musical counterpoints. And this is just one more testament to the sound and importance of Chicago’s DISTRACTIONS. Thus far GELATIN KIDS have a three-track self-titled raw psych 4track cassette out via Lillerne Tapes and the audio introduction has been called “everything warm and fuzzy and beautiful” by No Fear of Pop and “rich broken noise pop” by Pasta Prima. Building a sound that straddles weary lo-fi beauty with textured clarity, Portland’s SAM ADAMS plays the Bottle supporting his recent release, Draw This Bitter Blood. Using an expansive instrumental palette and digital textures, ADAMS “raises what might have been standard-issue boy-meets-guitar songs to inspired, even experimental, compositions,” in the words of Willamette Week. Pretty All Right records new comers WILD OATS open.
