21 years and over
Our final FREE Monday of May features four of Chicago’s most inventive solo musicians – proving that you don’t need an entire band to make an enveloping wall of sound. In April of 2010, NETHERFIRENDS’ SHAWN ROSENBLATT’s lease expired, so he packed up his life and hit the road with a seemingly impossible goal of playing a show in every State in the US, meeting like-minded musicians along the way and recording an original song dedicated, in some way, to a city in that State. The 50 Song 50 State project finished in Hawaii in April, 2011 and the first official release of the effort, Middle America, was released to much acclaim via Kilo Records earlier this year. HOUSE OF WOLVES is the musical moniker of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist REY VILLALOBOS. On his debut LP, Fold In the Wind, VILLALOBOS presents warm, ethereal and beautifully eerie tracks in an acoustic form with songs filled with colorful symphonics and thoughtfully spacious arrangements. Chicago's one-man sound collage artist, BIGCOLOUR, has posted his fantastically minimal EP Centuries of Summer for download on his BandCamp page and we highly recommend grabbing the tracks and rocking out full volume on the headphones before tonight's show. SARA KERMANSHAHI’s musical project NATUREBOY weaves modern loops & samples with acoustic folk to create a haunting synthesis of moody, intelligent music.
