21 years and over
It’s crazy to think that it’s been almost a decade since indie disco rockers VHS OR BETA released their first EP, 2002’s Le Funk. The duo has continuously evolved throughout their releases and last years’ self-produced Diamonds and Death has them refining their distinctive electro groove once again. An inventive mix of disco, electro and funk featuring subtle interplay between synth, guitars and effects, the effort is a spectacle from every angle, with catchy as all get out beats and some of the strongest vocals of their career. In the words of the A.V. Club, “indie rock has evolved into a catch-all tag for pretty much anything with guitars…SYBRIS is one of the few bands going to which the genre name might actually apply.” The quartet has been hard at work on their next LP and featuring spectacular wall-of-sound guitar work, the band’s sly combination of urgency, caterwauling and sentimentalism has held their place as one of Chicago’s most interesting outfits.
