Sherie Rene Scott premieres her new work, Piece Of Meat, at 54Below. Known for rarely appearing intimate, Ms Scott makes a rare, intimate appearance, exploring her singular story telling and musical abilities in this exclusive two week engagement.
Sherie Rene Scott is an actor, singer and writer known for her work in numerous theatrical productions including: EVERYDAY RAPTURE, written by Dick Scanlan and Ms. Scott, directed by Michael Mayer. EVERYDAY RAPTURE received Tony Award nominations for Best Actress in a Musical, Best Book and Best Musical; Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award nominations. WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN (Drama Desk Nomination), “Ursula” in Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID (Outer Critics Circle nomination), John Guare’s LANDSCAPE OF THE BODY directed by Michael Greif (Obie Award, Lucille Lortel Award), DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS directed by Jack O’Brien (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle Award nominations), Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA (Derwent Award), TOMMY (OBC), RENT, THE LAST FIVE YEARS directed by Daisy Prince (Drama Desk nomination), DEBBIE DOES DALLAS, Randy Newman’s FAUST, and Kander & Ebb’s OVER AND OVER (Helen Hayes nomination).
With Kurt Deutsch, she founded both Sh-K-Boom Records and Ghostlight Records, producing over 120 albums, garnering several Grammy nominations and Grammy Awards, most recently for the cast album of THE BOOK OF MORMON. Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records also received a 2006 Drama Desk Award for dedication to the preservation of musical theatre through cast recordings.
Ms. Scott may be heard on several Grammy Award winning or nominated cast albums, a single with jazz great Bill Charlap, a Billboard hit single with Elton John, as well as her own self-produced critically acclaimed recordings, “Sherie Rene…Men I’ve Had” and “Everyday Rapture”.
Todd Almond is a composer, lyricist and playwright. His musicals include MELANCHOLY PLAY (13P, with playwright Sarah Ruhl, dir: Davis McCallum): WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE (Yale Repertory Theater, with playwright Adam Bock, dir: Anne Kauffman); ON THE LEVEE (Lincoln Center Theater, dir: Lear deBessonet); GIRLFRIEND (Berkeley Rep., with songwriter Matthew Sweet, dir: Les Waters); and ODYSSEY (The Old Globe, dir: Lear deBessonet). Almond was recently awarded the Frederick Loewe award for his new musical IOWA (with playwright Jenny Schwartz) and he is currently collaborating with Warren Leight and Stafford Arima on a musical adaptation of John Knowles' novel A SEPARATE PEACE.
