21 years and over
Androgynous storm demons, jealous sisters and knife accidents: this is the world of Half You Half Me, the second album in the ongoing art-rock song-cycle by Girls in Trouble, to be released May 17th on JDub Records. With Girls in Trouble, Brooklyn poet and multi-instrumentalist Alicia Jo Rabins mines dark stories of Biblical women, exploring the hidden places where their complicated lives overlap with her own. The result is an album of fully orchestrated songs, both intimate and wide-ranging, with upright bass, drums, accordion, and layered electric guitars.
Euro+Trash: Kafka, Comics and Collisions of Culture
In an interactive comics slide show, Forward Artist in Residence Eli Valley shares the inspiration for much of his work: a romanticization of pre-war European Jewish culture as embodied in the fantasies of Franz Kafka and as experienced during his years living in Prague. Eli will provide commentary on several of his comics in light of those idealized eras: the absurdist hallucinations, the wellsprings of noir, and the recurring urge to capture an authentic Jewish cultural tradition.
