Additional Information

If all the music journos around the world who have reviewed A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, whether it be a live show or on record, had to describe the NYC trio in one word, our money is on “LOUD.”  Their newest release, an EP on Dead Oceans, Onwards to the Wall has been called by the label, “the loudest one ever submitted to the label for approval.”  The new effort packs every bit of the searing sonic maelstrom the world has come to expect from APBTS and ups the ante on barely-harnessed dark energy, snarling propulsion, unexpectedly catchy hooks and doomed-out vibes.  They’re joined tonight by fellow NYers BIG SLEEP, supporting their newest LP on French Kiss Records, Nature Experiments.  Building on the impressive majesty of their last LP, the new effort features front people DANNY BARRIA and SONYA BALCHANDANI trading off on vocals, monster guitar riffs, propulsive bass and embellished flickering electronics, creating death disco grooves and heavy metal thunder rushes with equal aplomb.  In the middle of this NY sound sandwich is Chicago’s APTEKA, whose 2011 LP, Gargoyle Days made Best of 2011 lists at outlets from Time Out Chicago to the Dumbing of America - awash in captivating reverb, swirling melodies and soaring, anthemic refrains, the new LP lives up to last years’ Chicago Tribune praise of the band, calling them “an increasingly commanding quartet that embraces the power of guitar drone, tribal drum and the deep, shoegaze-era swoon.”
