This course will help you, your college-bound teen, and college admissions counselors navigate the mystifying process of college admissions. The Times’ national education correspondent, Jacques Steinberg, will share insights from his long experience reporting on this process, including experience gained by spending an entire year shadowing the admissions officers at Wesleyan University. This course will feature exclusive on-camera interviews by Jacques Steinberg with the deans of admission from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan, who will walk participants through their selection processes. He’ll bring you the viewpoints of financial aid experts, as well as students who have been through the process. The course will include an explanation of the importance of matching a particular student to particular schools; an analysis of the factors that carry the most weight with admissions offices; an overview of financial aid options and how to evaluate them for your family; and a look at the merits of early decision and early action programs. Special attention will be paid to the application essay and its latest incarnations, such as video. The course will have self-paced lessons filled with original content covering the modules of study. All course material can be accessed directly within the online course. PLEASE NOTE: This is a self-paced online seminar which you will access through the Epsilen Global Learning System (GLS).
