Empty Bottle, Chicago, IL
21 years and over
It has been a lengthy hiatus, but KING KHAN & THE SHRINES finally graced the world with their latest "masterpiece" and named it after an incredible indigenous-rights movement that is happening right now called Idle No More. The new album, out last year on Merge, is easily the band's most refined work to date and the songs are about the state of the world today. A monstrous work of rock & roll and soul genius that channels everything from JAMES BROWN to VELVET UNDERGROUND to SUN RA, THE SHRINES are a pirate ship, helmed by KING KHAN across many a turbulent sea, spreading their music "like peanut butter" all over the world. RED MASS is a gathering of artists, writers and musicians from around the globe, created by ROY "CHOICE" VUCINO in 2008. The collective's goal is to create a positive atmosphere for networking and allowing its members to create and distribute their work properly, as well as pursuing the ideals of free thinking and liberation through art. This “Rock ‘n’ Roll” organisation touches on a wide array of mediums from animation, illustration, improvisation, art films to music - the band's live performances have been turning heads around the world ever since its inception. THE SUEVES have been blowing up all over Chicago in the past few years. With two releases out on local labels, last summer's Town Zone (Eye Vybe) and last winter's High School Ski Queen (Maximum Pelt), THE SUEVES are an explosive package of sweaty garage-blues-punk not unlike the BLACK LIPS or OBLIVIANS. The finest GET DRUNK DJs will be spinning the best rock, punk, and slimey garage throughout the night, so show up early and have all the good times.
