NEW CANYONS, a local outfit that delivers their extremely likeable take on melodramatic, icy synth pop, return to headline our final Free Monday of March 2014, since next week's ain't free. The band will be playing songs off their fantastic debut LP, Everyone is Dark, which BLVD Records released in June of 2013. Be sure and grab one of the records before you head home - your ears will thank you later. Hailing from Brooklyn and touring around a little music gathering called SXSW, YVETTE is a duo who makes deeply spiritual, wildly aggressive industrial post-punk, as seen on their 2013 LP, Process. A barrage of rolling toms, pummeling bass and processed guitar noise collide with chanted incantations to create a monstrous sound that is deeply primal and cannibalistic. Oddly enough, it's caught the ears of many a swooning critic, with Pitchfork rating their album 8.1/10 and Rolling Stone ranking it as the 4th best tape release of 2013. Embrace the madness. LUSHES are a two-piece rock band from the fruitful borough of Brooklyn, New York. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist/synthist JAMES ARDERY and percussionist JOEL DANIEL MYERS, the band's second album, What Am I Doing, drops on March 4th via Felte. The first single, "Harsh," has drawn comparisons to SLINT and MENOMENA, if that gives you any idea, and Stereogum says "it’s brainy, ethereal, and world-weary, but it’s anchored by a heart of gold." Chicago-based atmospheric music ensemble MANY MOONS opens tonight's show, making their Empty Bottle debut at our final Free Monday of March 2014.
