Before the Cro-Mags, the idea of combining metal and hardcore might have gotten you stomped out on a curb outside of CBGB's. But nobody was going to stomp John Joseph - and nobody has been able to keep him down since. The newly reformed and revitalized Cro-Mags feature original members John and Mackie, as well as AJ Novello from Leeway and Craig Setari of Sick of It All.
Supertouch is the great unsung band of late ‘80s New York hardcore scene. The band’s music combines the soulful fervor of Bad Brains with the melodic surge of DC’s “Revolution Summer” bands and the dynamic power of childhood heroes The Who. Though beloved in its home town, the band was initially an enigma on matinee bills. However, by 1990 any and all groups worth their salt were taking cues from Supertouch on how to update their music and take it into the future.
Subzero is back! After a two-year hiatus, the band has returned with its most formidable lineup to date, featuring the main contributors from the group’s classic albums, including Happiness Without Peace (1997), Necropolis (2004), and The Suffering of Man (2005). Although Subzero has toured the world many times over as a headliner and as a support group under national acts as well, the band retains its underground ethics by still playing in small clubs, basements, and dive bars to this day. The most influential critics had nothing but praise for Subzero, and the reviews speak for themselves.
Hardcore veterans guitarist Mike Dijan (Breakdown, Crown of Thornz, Skarhead) and drummer Lou Medina (Breakdown, All Out War, District 9) team up with Trapped Under Ice vocalist Justin Tripp to form Sai Nam. The group recently released its debut track “Comeback” and is poised to drop its first album in the upcoming months.
