Aislyn is a collaborative writing project between Sofia degli Alessandri and Ian Hultquist, who have been working together since meeting in Boston, in 2007. Spawning from a common interest in film scoring and electronic music, the two have begun to create a new genre that holds true to their name. Aislyn, which means "dream" in Gaelic, have released a debut self-titled EP of dreamily-orchestrated indie pop. Most often referred to as 'cosmic-pop-noir', Aislyn's songs may not resemble the happy-go-lucky works of Ian's other project, Passion Pit. However, with the help of their live drummer Joey Sulkowski (Death Set, Yes Giantess), Aislyn's music still entices crowds into frantic dance. As well as constantly creating new music, the band has been doing remixes and working with artists from the likes of Freelance Whales, Neon Indian, Tokyo Police Club and DOM.
Genghis Hans combines interlocking synths and bass lines, drum machines , electric guitar, vocals, and live effects manipulation. The songs themselves draw inspiration from pop, dub, hip hop, dance, and indie rock. The first single "Little Pinner" from the upcoming debut Small Steppes EP (Nov 2011) is available free, to stream and download, at www.genghishans.bandcamp.com
Genghis Hans is Hans Hsu and Stryker Matthews.
