21 years and over
It's Valentine's Day, baby, and we've literally got the perfect bill for this actual real-life holiday: It'll be a CHEAP TIME with your LOVER! that hopefully doesn't result in any UNWED TEENAGE MOTHERS. Za-za-za-ZING!!! Nashville-based rock'n'rollers CHEAP TIME return to the Empty Bottle for their first time in almost three years! Centered around the efforts of prolific songwriter/guitarist JEFFREY NOVAK, the band has released album after album of gritty, catchy garage-rock that mixes in glammy riffs and power-pop melodies for a throwback sound that recalls the grit and slime of early proto-punk. Their newest album, Exit Smiles, was released by In The Red this past November and it sees the band employing sharper production and more expansive songwriting without losing any edge - these boys and girl are still coming to rip us all a new one. Returning to our stage for the first time in over three years (holy shit!), LOVER! is essentially the musical vehicle of RICH CROOK, a Memphis-bred musician who's no stranger to this rock & roll game. Having played in such influential bands as REATARDS, LOST SOUNDS and VIVA L'AMERICAN DEATH RAY MUSIC, CROOK has been making sleazy garage, punk and new-wave since the late 90s and shows no signs of slowing down. Now based in Chicago, LOVER! drops the snarl of CROOK's past work while maintaining the same punk energy to create his distinct brand of barn-burning power pop. It's brighter and friendlier, sure, but don't think or a second that LOVER! lacks the ability to stir shit up and wreak havoc in a live setting. UNWED TEENAGE MOTHERS are a trio of young knuckleheads from Oxford, MS who perform as the rest of CROOK'S band in LOVER! while also making some pretty kick-ass rock & roll themselves. It's poppy as hell and oh-so-sweet and those fuzzy guitars are sure to get somebody pregnant here tonight -- or maybe it's the other way around? Either way, show up early to catch these fellas live and be on the look out for their debut LP, coming soon via Tic Tac Totally. Speaking of record labels, our pals at HoZac are gonna be spinning the finest rock and punk throughout the night, so show up early, stay late, and help us kick Valentine's Day square in the nuts.
