Straight No Chaser was founded in 1996 by Dan Ponce, who selected the original members from the world-renowned show choir The Singing Hoosers. SNC quickly became a campus favorite and soon became one of the most popular collegiate a capella groups in the country, Undergraduate members have maintained the tradition for the past 16 years.
In 2008, after a YouTube video of the original group performing ’12 Days of Christmas’ went viral, the original members reunited and signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
This created an unusual and confusing situation where two groups were performing under the same name. For four years both groups (Atlantic Record’s Straight No Chaser and Indiana University’s Straight No Chaser) continued to thrive. However, it became increasingly difficult to maintain a clear distinction between the two. Both groups tried their best to address the nuance, but it became apparent that a change had to be made in order to preserve the integrity of both groups.
After careful consideration, the decision was made that collegiate group would change its name. We, the 10 current members, chose the name Another Round, which we feel embodies everything that this incredible legacy stands for.
Our new album, “Two For the Show” marks a new chapter in the storied history of men’s a capella at IU. We are thrilled to continue to bring great music and pride to the heart of Bloomington.
It’s a new name. It’s the same sound. It’s Another Round.
