Free Mondays are always the best when they showcase the best established and up-and-coming talent that this fine city has to offer - lucky for us, tonight is one of those nights! "Baroque-core" quartet THE PAVER headline with a set of post-art-rock, mixing electric cello and electric violin, analogue synthesizer, bass, drums and strong male and femaile vocals. Loud Loop Press hails the band for bridging "the gap between baroque art pop and funeral metal. The combination is oddly comforting." Unfortunately tonight also sees the end of CONDUCTIVE ALLIANCE, the mathy, Krauty, trancey, pretty-much-everythingy experimentalists who've been playing in and around Chicago for over four years. The group has worked tirelessly to craft an original, exhilarating sound that is entirely unique to this city's robust rock landscape, and we're sad to see them call it quits. Buckle up one last time, kids, and prepare for their sonic spaceship to blast you into outer space for some interstellar exploration. Chicago/Memphis duo COURTESY makes their Bottle debut tonight with a set of dark, experimental ambient soundscrapes that they fuse with home-made, equally bonkers video. Their debut tape, Idmatic, was released on Fat Sandwich earlier this year, so pick one up while you're here. Opening the show is PLANAR ALLY, an experimental rock trio from Chicago who draws inspiration from numerous types of music and people. The band features multi-instrumentalists DAVID CURTIN, JOEL HACKETT and BEN SIMPSON.
