The partnership of Carl Weingarten (guitar), Jeff Oster (horns) and Michael Manring (bass) expresses itself in a sonic tapestry rich with possibility and meaning. Their music is a blending of folk, jazz and blues with contemporary, world fusion, electronica and progressive space. Finding new and creative ways to share their warm sound this trio is at the leading edge of experimental contemporary music.
Weingarten - Oster - Manring perform material from their Ambient World Music repertoire when they make their Philadelphia debut at The Gatherings Concert Series on 15 October 2011. Hang drum player Dante Bucci opens
Dante Bucci fuses world music and melodic indie rock with his pioneering approach to the Hang drum. A relatively new invention, the Hang drum (pronounced “hung”) is a melodic, inverted steel percussion instrument. The Hang has its own distinctive voice that draws comparisons to steel pans, harps, and even synthesizers. Each drum sings its own harmony, with a root in the center and a scale arrayed around the circumference. From delicate harmonic overtones to deep djembe-like thumps, Dante Bucci pushes the boundaries of the instrument farther than any other player on the planet.
