Asthma has become an epidemic, with the number of cases in the United States tripling in the past 20 years. About 4,000 people die each year due to asthma or allergy-related causes in the United States alone. Massachusetts, Maine, and Rhode Island have the highest rate of self-reported asthma, and all the New England states have higher than average rates. The fact that most asthma and allergy-related deaths are preventable is the most disheartening.
On Sunday, October 27th, 2013, we will be raising awareness of the dangers that asthma and allergies still threaten at Fete Music in Providence. The proceeds of the concert will go to the New England chapter of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The AAFA is the local leading non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with asthma and allergies. The New England chapter pursues this mission through a wide range of education, public awareness and advocacy programs, and support for research. AAFA New England will use the funds raised at this concert to teach people how to keep asthma under good control so they can live a full and healthy life. The show will feature performances by Dylan Sevey and the Gentlemen (http://dylansevey.bandcamp.com), Rich Ferri and the Wealth on the Water (http://richferrimusic.bandcamp.com), Dr. Jones & The Shiners (featuring members of The Sugar Honey Iced Tea, The Mighty Good Boys, and Smith&Weeden -http://www.facebook.com/dr.jonesrx), and some other very special guests.
It promises to be a night of phenomenal local music in support of a worthy cause. It will be an all ages event; doors open at 6:00 PM, and tickets are $8 in advance, $10 the day of at the door. Tickets can be bought at the event’s box office and online atwww.fetemusic.com. For more information on the AAFA, call 877-2-ASTHMA or visit www.asthmaandallergies.org.
