21 years and over
Every now and then we invite our friends MY GOLD MASK to come play a show and occasionally we're lucky enough that they say "yes!" and then other bands get added to the show and we all have a really great time. This is one of those times! Fusing goth pop drama with gritty rock & roll swagger, MY GOLD MASK have been described as creating "a delicate balance between 90s alternative rock gestures and futuristic gypsy tribe shit." Their art-nouveau pop-rock flows with ease and their second LP, Leave Me Midnight, was released this past March to a wave of praise from critics and fans. The group has since followed the record up with a new single, "Severed," that SPIN praised for pushing their sound forward, saying t's "as prone to pretty as it is ugly, and in both ways positively dazzling." MINOR CHARACTERS return to our stage for their first time since 2012, when they opened for THE HOLD STEADY's front man CRAIG FINN. Surfer chords and heartfelt, poppy songwriting come together through a theme of escapism and the sun-drenched tracks sound mighty fresh when coupled on these chilly fall nights. Uniquely retro without being a total throwback, MINOR CHARACTERS released their second EP, Heal Me, Healing Times, earlier this year and have started recording their debut LP, which will surely catapult them to the forefront of Chicago's robust music community. Making their Empty Bottle debut tonight, Chicago's MAGICKS are as accessible as they are indecipherable, playing dreamy pop that melds psychedelic and shoegaze leanings with influences from hip-hop, R&B and some of today's most influential sounds (chillwave, witch-house, dreamwave). The group will be releasing their new LP, Their Satanic Majesties Third Request, on the Spring Equinox in 2014.
