Additional Information

WOODEN SHJIPS’ rise to prominence from the psychedelic underground to the rock and roll overground has been a steady sojourn. With each consecutive release, the band has found new ways of transforming heady psychedelic rock into minimalist masterpieces, bridging the gap between the woozy freedom of LES RALLIZES DENUDES and CRAZY HORSE and the tightly-wound simplicity of SUICIDE and THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. Back To Land, the quartet’s follow-up to West, is the first WOODEN SHJIPS record to be conceived outside of San Francisco. RIPLEY JOHNSON and OMAR AHSANUDDIN moved to Oregon, where the lush climates became a major influence on the songwriting, expanding the band’s scope to include more earthy, grounded tones, while retaining their signature crunchy, distorted riffs, modal keys and steady, crisp drumming. It's a breakthrough record for the WOODEN SHJIPS: nuanced, varied and utterly addictive. Local mind-blowers CAVE return with their expansive, Krautrock-worshipping spaced-out trance-rock fraught with hypnotic synths, aggressive percussion and hard rocking guitar. On their 2011, mostly-instrumental LP for Drag City, Neverendless, the fella’s give new meaning to the phrase “extended jam,” on tracks driven by heavy riffs and drenched psychedelics. A new LP, Threace, was released last month courtesy of Drag City, and it sees the ever-expanding CAVE continue to move the earth as they reach for heaven, taking us all higher with their (never)endless jamz. RABBLE RABBLE are once again gracing us with their trashy-punk presence and they've been known to cause quite a ruckus - and many a mess - when they bring their dirty, catchy songs out of the dark underworld and onto our stage. The Chicago-based trio helped us celebrate the faux-apocalypse last year and the end of 2012 saw them release their fantastic, loved-by-all video for the song "Cole's Bathroom." They really let their hair down for it, showing off their kooky side while still thrashing and crashing around in the ways we know and love. These guys & gal are a real nightmare, so we couldn't think of a better way to start the night.
