plus Mick Turner (of Dirty Three)

Japanese instrumental outfit Mono was assembled by guitarist Takaakira “Taka” Goto in Tokyo around 1999 with a goal to communicate the feelings of joy and sorrow through sound, a goal the band has achieved again and again. From 2000 until the present time, this unique group have bent the ear of intrepid musicians like John Zorn and Steve Albini (with whom they've both worked). After a string of several critically-acclaimed albums, this four-piece rock band formed an orchestra of their own, The Worldless Music Orchestra, performing live with them and recently releasing an album with this ensemble, For My Parents. Touring with Mono is Mick Turner, guitarist for legendary underground Aussie band The Dirty Three, who will be releasing his latest album, Don’t Tell The Driver, this November. The Dirty Three’s remarkably heavy creepings have been on various releases by Cat Power, Nick Cave, and Will Oldham. Turner’s own solo works feature his rolling, tumbling, and seance-like guitar. Kids, bring your classic-rock parents to this gig. Not to knock the artists featured tonight, but if Dad can dig Pink Floyd’s Meddle, he should find these two more contemporary greats a whole lot of fun.
