21 years and over
In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of LADYFEST MIDWEST, organizers of the original 2001 festival have planned a weekend of events and we’re pleased as punch to be hosting tonight’s live show. A community-based, all-volunteer, not-for-profit global arts and activism festival celebrating the achievements of women, the first festival brought 4,000 people together for music, film, spoken word, performance, visual art and workshops raising nearly $20K for CWHC and Women in the Director’s Chair. For tonight’s show, the WANTON LOOKS bring out the tough girl edge of the evening, combining the snarly, cocksure aggression of JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS with BUZZCOCKS-a-riffic guitar solos and a surplus of well-placed vocal hooks. The CATHY SANTONIES and HOLLOWS were both featured in the Chicago Tribune’s “11 Local bands for 2011” – the SANTONIES praised for “bringing riot grrl feminist politics and raw punk back to the fore with blunt force” and they love the HOLLOWS for their delicious blend of “60s girl-group harmonies, buoyant melodies and generous vocal reverb.” DJ Reagonmix spins throughout and the night is hosted by JYL FEHRENKAMP, a performer/dancer/choreographer and curator/host of Poonie’s Cabaret at Links Hall. Gooooooo ladies!
All proceeds of the show will be donated to Chicago Women’s Health Center
