21 years and over
Since 2008, CROCODILES have evolved from their genesis as the duo of BRANDON WELCHEZ and guitarist CHARLES ROWELL into a revolving cast of artistic heathens. Though the group has seen members come and go, their efforts are centered around the core members, BRANDON and CHARLES, who have been writing and recording together since they were 18 years old. Following in the footsteps of the raw, anthemic psychedelia and art-punk of albums past, this year's record, Crimes of Passion, out on French Kiss, is certainly CROCODILES most fully-realized album to date. The band has added a refined cohesion and unmistakable sunniness to their glorious noise and echo-cloaked pop and you can bet your ass they'll be raging here tonight. On the heels of last years critically acclaimed debut LP Under the Pale Moon and EP Earth Has Doors, comes the sophomore album Cut Yourself Free from WYMOND MILES, the guitarist of San Francisco garage-pop titans THE FRESH & ONLYS. His latest effort is another convergence of moonlit romantic swagger and post-punk mascaraed urgency. Again self-recorded and produced to tape, now Miles’ poignant song-craft has emerged more refined, benefiting from the avalanche of his frenzied live shows, but also adhering to a more minimalistic fashion with crooning mid-era NICK CAVE or BOWIE/ROXY MUSIC strains of pop-modernism. Last year, local bluesy psych-rockers SOFT SPEAKER recorded a new batch of songs with local producer and CAVE "frontman" COOPER CRANE. The fruits of this recording are a new LP titled Turkish Mindbathers, as well as an EP called International Scheiße, Dummkopf! With these new efforts SOFT SPEAKER has broken new ground as a band and the releases are of a mind-folding nature that will surely excite the city's already robust psychedelic rock world.
