21 years and over
Experimental pop singer-songwriter JENNY HVAL comes to the Bottle tonight for a special *early* performance, supporting her fantastic new LP, Innocence Is Kinky, out earlier this year via Rune Grammofon. Produced in Bristol, England by PJ HARVEY collaborator JOHN PARISH, who helped bring out the intimate qualities of her lyrics while sharpening her improvisational tendencies, the effort weaves spellbinding new forms of intelligent, experimental pop with injections from mythology, theory and gender politics. The record is highly influenced by her sound installation work she's done over the past few years and you can trace her no-holds-barred streams of consciousness and unorthodox subject matter touch on such heroes as PATTI SMITH, MICHAEL GIRA, NICK CAVE and KATE BUSH. Opening tonight's early show is ACTEURS, Chicago's new-ish collaborative duo comprised of BRIAN CASE (DISAPPEARS, THE PONYS, 90 DAY MEN) and JEREMY LEMOS (WHITE/LIGHT). We were delighted by the release of their debut, self-titled mini-album on England’s Public Information label this past February, a record that's filled with dark-ish, razor-sharp synth trance-outs, and are excited to welcome them back for their first show since playing the Bohemian National Cemetery back in June. Majestic folky MUYASSAR KURDI, aka THE HUMMINBIRD, brings the freaky and psychedelic out tonight with her unique blend of spiritual, backwoods singer-songwriter tuneage that’s all acid-trip meets vision quest. Be on the lookout for KURDI's newest newest solo release in the coming months, Beyond the Orchard, with artwork by Steve Krakow and recordings/mixing by Jonathan Alvin.
