21 years and over
Olympia, WA three-piece BROKEN WATER is a sometimes noisy, sometimes droning, often pretty and subtly poppy band that is very much a bi-product of their hometown and it's robust, tight-knit music community. Since their inception in the late aughts, BROKEN WATER has been one of those rare bands that have evolved with a singular sound, rooted in a haunting, shoegaze-inflected post-punk. Last year's Tempest, released via Hardly Art, is restless but succinct, an unhinged sonic assault that snakes its way through impeccably distorted sounds and eerie melodies for pure, brain-melting bliss. Chicago's RUNNING doesn't give a fuck. Their second full length LP, Asshole Savant, released last year via Captcha, is a mess of reverbed-to-heck vocals, pummeling drum and bass and abrasive, feedback-heavy guitar, and it sounds like it was recorded in a toilet made of solid gold. Their third LP, Vaguely Ethnic, and it'll be released by JOHN DWYER from THEE OH SEES bad-ass new label Castle Face Records! Chicago-based TORTURE LOVE makes their Empty Bottle debut tonight and their noisy, fractured take on new wave's most experimental leanings is sure to get the blood simmering to start the night.
