Beachland Tavern, Cleveland, OH
Musician Emily Wells combines classical violin technique, looped and layered electronics, found objects, folk guitar, and on her latest album, Mama, throws in a bit of twisted soul and funk. The end result provides you with a one-woman show, where the stage is full of musical knicknacks and devices, but with the power coming straight from Emily’s heart. If you like everything from Tune-Yards to Joanna Newsom or even Adele; or whether you like just being flat-out surprised by young talent pushing the boundaries both on stage and in the studio, please come to this special performance by Emily Wells. They call themselves “prog-folk”, but the fact is that Cleveland band Midwestern writes some fine songs that bring to mind sunrises and sunsets over Lake Erie. If you like that sort of thing -- who doesn't? -- come early to this Sunday night show and check out Midwestern.
