Atlanta's BLACK LIPS have been called many things - garage, revival, goofballs, bad kids, outlaws, flower punks - and since their first release back in 2003 on Bomp! the band has toyed with all of these influences and reputations. Of the music on their last LP 200 Million Thousand on Vice Records, Pitchfork praised, "if there's beauty in imperfections, some of these songs are shrines." We're hoping for some new premiers tonight from the outfit's upcoming LP, Arabia Mountain - their first with a producer, the one and only MARK RONSON (DURAN DURAN, AMY WINEHOUSE, LILY ALLEN, KAISER CHIEFS). One can only imagine what happens when you mix dapper suits and messy good-time rock & roll. This month saw the release of the VIVIAN GIRLS' third LP, and Polyvinyl debut, Share the Joy, an effort that Atlanta Music Guide describes as, "Finally, the world gets to find out what it would sound like if Beach Boy Brian Wilson and the late Joey Ramone had three daughters." Local 60s-style, harmony-driven, garage psyche rockers OUTER MINDS open.
