The easy-going sound of ALO will fill your ears tonight with some sounds that just gently take you by the hand and say, “this was made in California.” Whoa, bro. No wonder surfer dude Jack Johnson took these cats under his wing. Every ALO tune bubbles with lively rhythms and catchy melodies good for frisbee golf, sunny cookouts, bike rides along the Cleveland shore, and much more. These guys are a little bit jamband, but not so big on the jazz-fusion thing or the electronica thing. ALO’s thing is pretty simple. Good tunes, a good vibe, and some good causes, too. These guys have an annual tour -- the Tour d’Amour -- where a portion of proceeds are donated to Bay Area-based organization Music in Schools Today (MuST). MuST is the Bay Area’s answer to the program-cutting crisis in music education, serving over 10,000 children and youth annually. On his last album, singer-songwriter Ryan Montbleau enlisted New Orleans big shots like Anders Osborne, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, and Galactic’s Ben Ellman to create the soulful For Higher. Guess what? For Higher is just as funky as you think it would be.
