Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland, OH
Beachland's 13th Anniversary Weekend
We first heard about Jessica Lea Mayfield when she went under the name “Chittlin” several years ago, performing throughout Ohio with her talented brother David. She ditched the handle, but has upped her ability to create great music, recording albums with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, and even contributing vocals to some of that famed band’s recordings. Jessica’s always hitting the road or working on another album, so here’s your chance to hear an artist who’s precariously poised at household name status. Auerbach’s deftly gritty production touch has also aided folk-blues duo Shivering Timbers, whose sinister folk-blues first saw the light of day on the album We All Started In The Same Place. Their second album, Sing Sing, was produced by former Greenhornes member Brian Olive. It’s fitting that tonight’s first performer, Charles Hill Jr, starts off a night of great new Ohio americana. Though having played in a variety of punk and indie rock bands, Charles and his bandmates have recently reinvented themselves as a classic honky-tonk ensemble.
