21 years and over
CHRIS COHEN is a 37-something native of Los Angeles currently residing in the farmlands of Vermont. His résumé of prior musical projects is a long one: as a contributing member of THE CURTAINS, CRYPTACIZE, DEERHOOF and NATURAL DREAMERS, he released 10 full-length albums between 2002 and 2008. Along the way, COHEN was also a touring player with WHITE MAGIC, CASS MCCOMBS, HAUNTED GRAFFITI and DANIELSON, among others, for stints both short and long. Hailing from Lexington, KY, IDIOT GLEE, aka JAMES FRILEY, describes his sound as "post-doo-wop," and that's a pretty tidy approximation. On his self-titled debut EP, FRILEY loops his voice into a one-man combo, throws in some gentle, slightly fuzzed beats and turns the reverb up to 'Maximum Romantic.' Be on the lookout for his soon-to-be-released EP Life Without Jazz for a glimpse into the genius of the "idiot." Led by the quaking and nomadic guitars and vocals of MICHAEL HILGER, THIN HYMNS open tonight's show with their intimate folk-minded pop songs, fleshed out live by clattering percussion, ethereal strings and twinkling keyboards.
