GOAT / Holy Wave

21 years and over
As is bound to happen when outsider bands hail from remote, obscure locations that play alien, unfamiliar music, Sweden’s GOAT has been shrouded in mystery and legend since tearing a whole in our dimension last year with their debut album World Music, out on Rocket Recordings. There’s a whole “voodoo village curse” thing surrounding the band’s mythology, which is interesting if it's true, but it falls short of the band's sheer awesomeness and musical prowess. Combining innumerable stylistic influences, from Afro-groove to psych, post-punk to kraut, Turkish rock to astral folk, GOAT is a rare breed and with tonight being their first ever Chicago show, we’re guaranteeing minds will be blown on multiple levels. Austin-based five-piece HOLY WAVE is touring around the U.S. with GOAT this spring, and tonight their unique brand of psychedelic rock is the perfect way to kick things off. Get here early to catch these cats in action – hopefully they’ll have the trippy projections we saw them use at SXSW, but even if they don’t it’ll be well worth your time.
