Back in the early 2000s, Detroiter Kurt Marschke stood apart from the garage-rock and punk clans that seemed to be running amok on the pages (still made of paper and ink back then) of mags like NME, Spin, and Rolling Stone. His band, Deadstring Brothers, was slow-cooked in a rootsy stew that was equal parts Stones and their kindred spirit demon, Gram Parsons, not fried in sassy mod speed. Time apparently has been good to Marschke and his gang, as the leather pants, jean jackets, and sharp haircuts of the garage-rock era have given away to sexy denim and shaggy guitars. The Deadstring Brothers still chug along, occupying that neat space where catchy rock and roll wasn’t afraid of some proper country dirt. In the opening slots we’ll have the Bobby C3, featuring drummer extraordinaire Tommy Rich, bassist Brian McCafferty and singer Robert Cornelius; opening we’ll have singer-songwriter Thor Platter and ace session keyboardist Chris Hanna. None of these guys are afraid of dirty rock and roll chased down with a shot and a beer, that’s for sure.
