Three-time Major League Baseball All-Star Barry Zito, and national music recording artist Kelley James, will headline “A Night For The Troops” on Friday, January 18 at The Key Club. The show will benefit Strikeouts For Troops, which was founded by Zito in 2004.
Coming together for a fourth time, Zito and James continue to bring music and sports fans together for a good cause. Previous performances featured Major League Baseball (MLB) players Ryan Braun, left fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, Eric Byrnes, former Seattle Mariners outfielder and current KNBR host, Huston Street, pitcher for the San Diego Padres, and Pablo Sandoval, infielder for the San Francisco Giants.
Zito and James, who have played a number of shows together, will perform their unique mix of acoustic music for a very special cause. Strikeouts For Troops (501c3), Zito's national non-profit, gives back to military service men and women through donations by incorporating the joy of baseball to comfort and uplift injured troops and families in their greatest time of need.
Zito, a 13-year MLB veteran, three-time MLB All-Star, member of the reigning World Champion San Francisco Giants and Cy Young Award winning pitcher (2002), is also an accomplished songwriter that has always had a love for the stage. Zito's roots and influence in music began with his father Joe, who is a classically trained musician and conductor/composer for Nat King Cole.
Kelley James’ music is a fascinating collection of acoustic guitars, hip-hop beats, thoughtful lyrics and freestyle flows. Additionally, he has toured the nation with acts such as Mike Posner and O.A.R., and has performed over 700 shows in the past four years. He has sold out shows at the Troubadour in Los Angeles and the House Of Blues in Chicago and is a regular performer at PGA events including the Coors Light Birds Nest at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Farmer’s Insurance Rock Ball, HP Byron Nelson Pavilion After Dark and more.
James has released a total of two full-length records, including his debut album “In a City that has No Name” in 2007, and three EP’s including, “The Recent Future” in June 2011. James’ recently released single “Summertime On My Mind” has become a summer anthem and has received recognition from several viral entertainment sites including BroBible, BuzzFeed, ClevverMusic, Mashable and Tone It Up.
