Patricia Barber’s April 2012 appearance on our stage was so wonderful, we couldn’t wait 12 months to have her back! Of that performance, Mike Engle at FeastOfMusic.com noted: “The band's music spanned the entire jazz spectrum from traditional blues to Nat King Cole–style swing, contemporary explorative music (Barber occasionally plucked the piano strings and used a water bottle as a ‘prepared piano’ prop), and everything in between, with seemingly instant transitions.” For twenty years, this unclassifiable Chicago based artist has led her own band and released a series of acclaimed albums including her 1992 major–label breakout Distortion of Love; and Mythologies, a song cycle based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses that was funded by a Guggenheim Fellowship.
