Jazz Standard is pleased and indeed privileged to welcome back the Vijay Iyer Trio to our stage this week. In the 60^th Annual DownBeat International Critics Poll announced June 2012, the indefatigable pianist/composer topped an unprecedented five categories including “Jazz Artist of the Year” and “Jazz Album of the Year” forAccelerando (ACT, 2012). In addition, Iyer was voted the top Pianist, his trio was named the top Jazz Group, and he took honors for Rising Star Composer. “The Vijay Iyer Trio is the best band in jazz,” flatly declared Will Layman at PopMatters, adding: “Accelerando is a bounty of pleasures and musical challenges. A band and a record this great calls for a public parade, or at least full on celebration.”
