Dr. Lonnie Smith, who celebrated his 70^th birthday on our stage in 2012, shows no sign of slowing down creatively or resting on his impressive laurels. An authentic master and guru of the Hammond B–3 organ for over five decades, the good Doctor has been featured on over seventy albums (his Columbia debut Finger Lickin’ Good appeared in 1966) and has recorded and performed with many of the greatest jazz, blues and R&B performers in music history. In 2012, Dr. Lonnie Smith launched his own recording and production company, Pilgrimage Productions, to release The Healer, a blazing live trio date including “Mellow Mood,” “Dapper Dan,” and his passionate interpretation of Billy Strayhorn’s classic “Chelsea Bridge.”
