Additional Information

The Empty Bottle is proud to host this music showcase for Chicago-run label, Hairy Spider Legs. They are celebrating their first year as a homegrown psych-folk/experimental label and are throwing this fest just for you. Arrive early at 7pm for the premier screening of a short documentary called These Are Our Songs. The film follows a DIY tour through the U.S. Southeast. Also equally awesome is a medieval BESTIARY release coming out on tape and available for purchase at the show, again brought to you by Hairy Spider Legs. The BESTIARY tape is Beastly compilation of songs and artists, ranging from the shamanistic music of ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO to the heart-stopping melodies of VILLAGE OF SPACES. The tape is a limited edition, and includes a beautiful fold-out of medieval beasts drawn by Rebecca Schoenecker. And stick around for the amazing music line-up, which will start promptly at 8:00pm!

These Are Our Songs - Documentary Screening @7:00pm (45mins)

Filmed in half-lit basements, last minute venues, and dive bars, this 2012 tour diary captures experimental and folk music from the U.S. Southeast. While bringing attention to the strange beauty of the underground music scene, this documentary also highlights the eclectic talents of its performers. From plein air painters to puppet-makers, alien poets, shamans, and baroque clad a capella singers, a variety of genius reveals itself intimately and unexpectedly. The film features clips with: The Cherry Blossoms, Healing Trapeze, Umin, Janie Roberts, Yes Yes, Pilgrim, Grandpa Egg, John Flannelly, and The VonVolsung Sisters. Ultimately inspiring and multifaceted, these artists reinvigorate the realm of live performance and encourage us all to embrace the odd brilliance within.
