Every time a local record store throws an event, we just have to smile. Why? Because remember when big-box music retailers wandered the land, crushing indies at will, and causing music lovers to scurry for cover under their laptops? It appears those days are done for now. The concept of the record store has a cultural hangout has truly returned. We are pleased. We like it when people aren’t just buying music from a real live local retailer; we like it even more when people share the concept of loving music from a real live human being. Hence, we’ll be rejoicing when Cleveland’s Music Saves and Akron’s Square Records combine forces to present a great lineup of fine bands from either city. Check out the dark folk blues of Shivering Timbers and the high-powered rock n’ roll of Ohio Civil War, featuring members of great CLE bands like The Conservatives, The Chargers Street Gang, and also featuring Melt restaurant impresario Matt Fish on drums.
