plus Maura Rogers & The Bellows

Beachland Tavern, Cleveland, OH
This very special Beachland show features Kelly Hogan, who frequently sings with one of our favorite musical superstars, Neko Case. Kelly’s most recent album is her second solo work, and it’s called I Like To Keep Myself In Pain. After years of working hard to keep her own musical career afloat (whether as a bartender or working for a label), she found a sympathetic patron in Anti Records. In turn, she invested in hiring a crack band for this recording: Gabriel Roth (from Daptone Records and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings), and Booker T Jones (THE Booker T, from the immortal soul band that bears his name), among other great session players. In addition, she solicited songs from a variety of artists, including Robyn Hitchcock, Vic Chesnutt, Andrew Bird, and many others. The result is a record that invokes everything from 70s country to 60s soul and sunshine pop. But’s all been made unique by Kelly’s gentle yet unyielding voice. This night starts off with the excellent music of Maura Rogers and her band of acoustic rockers, The Bellows. Her latest album is A Good Heart Will Break.
