Additional Information

From 1992 to 2005, the Jazz Composers Collective was a potent organizational force on the NYC music scene dedicated to advancing the development and presentation of new music, while building new audiences for creative jazz. The Collective’s annual concert series became a mainstay of NYC’s creative music scene for twelve seasons; in total, these shows featured the work of 50 composers, the participation of over 250 musicians, and the premiere of over 300 new works. This week at Jazz Standard, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the JCC with performances by no less than eleven different bands – featuring bassist/composer Ben Allison in collaboration with such first–rank players as trumpeter Ron Horton, pianist Frank Kimbrough, and saxophonists Ted Nash and Michael Blake. “We started the Collective as a way to provide musicians with opportunities to create and perform original compositions,” says Ben Allison. “I’m thrilled to reunite with Michael, Ron, Frank, and Ted to revisit some of the music from that period and play new works too.”
